The visions how a desirable future could look like? Throughout history we repeatedly find artists, philosophers and spiritual leaders developing visions. Occasionally they called these vision Utopia. But what about the last decades?
Having resigned and accepted that there is no alternative to capitalism and market economy, the maximum of a vision is apparently how science and technology will change our life within this framework - artificial intelligence, genetics, robotics, block-chain, to name a few keywords. Technology and science eventually will bring us a “better life”. Who still believes that? Beside that it is all about a little more or less economic growth, a little more or less unemployment, a little more or less migration, a little more or less climate warming, etc. etc. To have visions and to implement them is of course something very different. But if humanity don't has visions at all? What does it mean? Although it might sound completely arrogant we are trying to fill the gap!
The Utopian constitution guarantees basic rights for all living beings, including human beings, animals and plants. Namely the right for a self-determined life respectively a species-appropriate existence. Thus the constitution does not only include a sophisticated collection of human rights, but also a broad range of animal and plant rights.
Utopians are aiming for a self-determined living and a self-determined dying. It means that if a self-determined living was not possible, they would opt for a self-determined death (refusal of life prolonging medical treatments or hemlock cup). They saw absolutely no sense in spending tremendous human resources and money to delay death and to artificially prolong a life time accompanied by lots of pain and suffering. Because Utopians don't fear death, this was self-evident.
Utopians entertain free and open emotional and sexual relationships. The traditional family model, previously mostly maintained for the image but lived as double standard, had lost its importance. Various new kinds of social structures and ways to live together have emerged.
Utopians scaled down science in favour of practical skills and wisdom. This was rooted in the deep understanding that scientific “development” was not going along with human development, and that scientific development created more new problems than it solved existing ones. Utopians understood that scientific development without human development is like giving atomic weapons to small children. Science aiming at controlling things by manipulation was understood as the endless work of Sisyphus.
In Utopia people practice meditation with the same matter of course people from the old world were brushing their teeth's, with the same determination as they were financing, maintaining and catering cars. Thus they spend a significant amount of their life energy for meditation practices of various kinds (meditation in the narrow sense, but also art and any other activity based on mindfulness and concentration).
Utopians are vegans, vegetarians or flexitarians. As a consequence of the granted rights for animals, and other important aspects, they gave-up mass animal husbandry at land and at sea. For the same reasons plants were exclusively grown using biological principles. Many utopians are producing their own food with permaculture principles in various kinds of forms (biological farming, urban gardening, parks of eatable wild plants, etc.).
Almost all Utopians are producing their own electricity and energy locally where they live. Be it with their own house, be it with shared installations for multi-family homes or be it within small communities. They produce their own electricity with solar, wind and other technologies, they produce their own gas from their composts, they cook and bake with solar cookers and ovens.
As a result of 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10 and 12 most Utopians have achieved very high level of self-sufficiency. They produce their own energy with solar technology, they produce their own gas from composts, they grow their own organic food, they pull their own drinking water from the air, they exchange knowledge and work, etc. This very high level of self-sufficiency brought the power from corrupt politicians and greedy corporates back to the people. In fact a high level of self-sufficiency was proven to be much better than any form of democracy, because there was a coherence between work, competence and responsibility.
The constitution of Utopia guarantees a basic income covering the existential needs for all Utopians. Because of 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11 and 12 the required amount is only a tiny fraction of what it would have been in the old world. And thus financing was very very easy.
Utopians posses no cars or motorcycles. Utopians mainly move around by walk, by bicycle and by any other mean based on human force or truly sustainable energy. For longer distances Utopians use a highly advanced free public transportation system, which is climate neutral. In Utopia there are only very few cars. All this goes along with a more regional organization of daily work and life style.
Utopians have rediscovered the ship for inter-continental travels and they have developed high tech solar boats. Utopians travel less, they travel slower and they stay longer. Their travels are mostly related to personal development and inter-cultural exchanges. Thus many Utopians live at different places on the planet throughout their life.
Utopians are aware that interdicts have led to serious problems and totalitarian systems in the past. Good ideas often haven been destroyed and perverted by the enforcement of interdicts. Thus as a principle, they are trying to achieve anything through arguments, encouragement and transformation of mind. Though a very small fraction of highly hazardous activities and practices were banned by law from Utopia: Namely the speculation on any kind of goods and the generation of profits related to basic needs and essential functions of the society such as housing, medicine, risk balancing and banking.
